Sunderland are set to step up their pursuit of striker Darren Bent with just 10 days to go before the Black Cats begin their preparation for the new season.
Some reports today suggest the Spurs forward and his representatives are interested in talking to Sunderland should the Londoners accept a bid for the in-demand former Ipswich and Charlton hitman.

Bent has been a fringe figure at White Hart Lane, finding it tough to break the partnership between Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane.

Spurs paid Charlton £16.5million for the 24-year-old last summer and he scored six goals in 27 Premier League appearances last season, starting only 11 times.

Sunderland return for pre-season training on July 11 and have yet to complete any deals, despite being linked with dozens of alleged targets.

Bent could command a £12million fee but some reports have suggested he is not keen to stray too far from his southern roots.

While no new faces have been confirmed on Wearside, there have also been no sales.

That could change in the near future with Stoke expected to make an improved offer for Hungarian goalkeeper Marton Fulop.

Transfer-listed winger Ross Wallace also continues to attract interest from the Championship, where Preston North End and Sheffield United are eager to add him to their ranks.
