TRAVELLING to Buenos Aires to compete in celebrity Total Wipeout, boxing in a Costa Rican prison, entertaining troops in war-torn Afghanistan, taking to the skies in a Piper Warrior plane and hitting the road on tour are all a day's work for Joe Pasquale. MARISSA CARRUTHERS caught up with the comedian to find out where he finds the time to fit it all in.
IT'S little wonder Joe Pasqale speaks at a rate of at least 300 words a minute – the steam flying from my notepad was proof.
This is a man who likes to be on the move and one whose personal dictionary certainly does not include the words calm, relaxing and quiet.
And now the man whose life never stands still is heading to the region where he will be entertaining the crowds with his laugh-out-loud show, Magic, Mayhem, Nostradamus, and More!
Although 48-year-old Joe has been a popular face in the country's households, it was undoubtedly his 2004 appearance on I'm A Celebrity... which saw him crowned the winner, that was the catalyst to a new-found spot in the limelight.
Since then, his life has gone into overdrive with requests flying in left, right and centre.
He starred alongside Jim Carrey when he used his unique voice as Dentist Whoville in Horton Hears a Who! and in 2006 he was the voice of Claudius the mouse in the 2006 film Garfield: A Tale of Two Kittens.
He also took his debut role in theatre when he starred as Leo Bloom in the smash hit Mel Brooks musical, The Producers.
This year has seen Joe film a TV series for Sky One alongside comedian Bill Bailey, he's been asked to take part in celebrity Mastermind – although he was gutted when they refused to accept his speciality of Spongebob Squarepants.
He's hosted his own TV special, An Audience with Joe Pasquale, presented The Price is Right for ITV and recorded Frankenstein's Cat.
"I love doing what I do and I wouldn't change it for the world," he said. "When I'm on tour I do get a few days off in between shows so I get a little time to myself.
"Over the last few years I've taken a bit of a break from touring, which has been brilliant and given me the chance to focus on other things.
"But going back to it has been great because I forgot how much I loved it. I've not been up north for a while and I love it up there.
"The crowds are funny and they always like to get involved. I love doing live work and we've never been in more need of a good laugh than now.
"I can't promise a solution to the global meltdown, but I can offer two hours of escapism.
"The show is going to be more ridiculous than ever. We've got some great new magic, mishaps and music and my trusty twin brother, Raynard, will of course be joining in the fun.
"I'm also including a personal tribute to Nostradamus, who it turns out is related to me through a second cousin, and I'll be making a few predictions of my own during the course of the show.
"I will be doing a bit of mind-reading this year, but it's still funny. There's none of this serious business.
"This is a real family show and will suit anyone from the age of five to 95. It's basically 2.5 per cent stupidity and absolutely nothing cerebral."
And there's no rest for the wicked because when Joe finishes his tour on November 25, his hectic schedule continues as he heads to Birmingham Hippodrome when he will star in panto The Sleeping Beauty as Muddles alongside The X Factor and Dancing on Ice star Ray Quinn.
"I've done panto for about the last 25 years and I never get tired of it. It's only six weeks out of every year and it's a different medium to what I usually do."
So will next year be any quieter? I don't think so.
"I've already got pencilled in a radio series for Radio 2 and a load of TV shows so there'll be a lot more of me to come," said Joe
Joe Pasquale can be seen at Newcastle's Tyne Theatre on Saturday, November 7 at 7.30pm.
