Witness appeal after two-vehicle collision in Sunderland

Witnesses are being sought after a collision between two vehicles over the bank holiday weekend.

Northumbria Police has issued an appeal following the incident, which took place at 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday, May 28).

Officers received reports of a collision at the junction of the Cedars and Ryhope Road, Sunderland.

A silver Skoda Fabia and a black Ford Focus were involved.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: "We were called at 5.50pm yesterday to Sunderland to reports of a road traffic collision.

"We airlifted a male, believed 69-years-old, with serious head and chest injuries.

"He was put into induced coma on scene before being flown to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. He arrived in a critical condition."
