Popular Sunderland fireworks display cancelled
Bonfire Night at Ashbrooke Sports Ground has become an annual highlight for thousands of visitors over the years, but organisers have said it will not take place this year.
The Ashbrooke display was a ticketed event, and bosses have said the rise in popularity of free displays meant staging an event this year wasn’t financially viable.

Hide AdA spokesman said: “Unfortunately we are not doing a fireworks display this year. Due to the rise in popularity of free displays in the area it is no longer valid for the club to put on the event.
“We are sorry to everyone who is disappointed by this decision but we must do what is in the best interests of the club.”
The club says it is working to replace the Bonfire Night event with a new winter festival, details of which will be released soon,
