Person on wrong side of bridge railings sparks emergency call out

The emergency services were called to a bridge over the River Wear late last night when a person was spotted on the wrong side of the barrier.

Sunderland's Coastguard team were paged at 11.15pm to reports someone had climbed over the railings of the Queen Alexandra Bridge.

However, they were stood down before they arrived as the incident had been resolved.

The service has issued a reminder to call 999 in all coastal emergencies and to ask for the Coastguard.
