Investigation launched after car fire in Sunderland

An inquiry will be carried out into how a car blaze started in the early hours of today.

Firefighters from Marley Park Fire Station were called to a spot just off Ferryboat Lane, between Wessington Way and Town End Farm, just after 5am.

A Mercedes Benz saloon car had been found on fire, with the blaze largely in the passenger side of the vehicle.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to out out the fire.

Police are investigating, with any information to be reported to Northumbria Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
