Pupils at Grindon Hall Christian School gathered early from 9am to find out their GCSE results.
Overall, 66% of pupils at the school achieved five A*-C grades including English and Mathematics, which is above the national average.
Vice principal Adrian Johnson said: “We are delighted with how well the pupils have done. It’s always a nervous time for them.”
Among those celebrating was Oluwatobi Adegboye, 16, from Ashbrooke, whose results included five A* and six A grades; Martyn Clegg, 16, from Durham who achieved four A* and seven A grades; Matthew Elves from Easington who was celebrating five A* and three A grades and Nicole Stockton from Chester-le-Street who received five A* and four A grades.
Matthew said: “I’m really happy with the result and feel a lot more relaxed now. The school have been great. I’ve been going here since I was three and I’ll be staying on for Sixth Form.
“Getting good grades helps to confirm what you want to do in Sixth Form.”
