A boat is safely back in harbour after it suffered engine failure off the coast of Sunderland.

The 17-foot cabin cruiser broke down off Roker Pier and called Humber coastguard at 6.50pm this evening.

As a result, Sunderland RNLI lifeboat launched at 7pm, to help the vessel in difficulty.

A coastguard spokesman said another vessel was int he area at the time, and assisted the stricken boat, before it was taken back into harbour.
