Athletic Bilbao
A road-kill inspired travesty of a kit which makes Hull City's tiger print effort seem like the height of fashion.

Who knows what the inspiration was for this 1992 horror show - also sported by Oldham Athletic around the same time.

One thing for certain is it probably inspired the opposition - to laughter.

Hull City
1992 brought, quite simply, a ground-breaking moment in football fashion.

The design process possibly went something like this: Designer: "What's your club's nickname?" Chairman: "The Tigers." Designer: "Right, that'll do."

Not surprisingly, this horror was worn for just one season.

Stockport County
This horrendous attack of blue and purple graced the league in 1993.

It came during the early 90s, now looked back on as an 'experimental time' for football gear.

Thankfully, this effort didn't last long.

Carlisle United
With a kit like this it's probably just as well Carlisle spent so long in English football's doldrums.

A valiant effort to get all the colours of the rainbow into a single shirt.

Coventry City
Terrible football kits are a fairly modern invention, but Coventry can boast the dubious distinction of having released one of the earliest shockers on record.

This infamous 1978 number inspired a number of terrace chants on the 'brown' theme.

Sadly, none of them can be reprinted in a family newspaper.

Norwich City
The fact Norwich were riding high in the league and on a European adventure in 1993 makes it all the more perplexing that designers chose to give them what looks like a set of overalls.

Bayern Munich and Inter Milan must have wondered whether they were playing a set of paintballers.

Chelsea
Chelsea have had a few honourable mentions in the bad kit department, including their flourescent yellow effort this season.

But this horrific grey and orange number takes the top prize.

They wore it away from home in 1995 during the Ruud Gullit reign. Sexy football it ain't.

Seville
Footballers generally see themselves as a macho breed - and so do their supporters.

So followers of Seville must have been horrified when they stepped out in this garish third kit.

Scunthorpe United
One can only imagine the look on the Scunthorpe players' faces when they were confronted with this effort.

Looking like a team of air stewardesses can't have done much for team morale.
