TAKE a spooky tour to the top of a Wearside landmark.
Brave visitors with a head for heights have one last chance to climb the secret staircase in Penshaw Monument before it closes for the year.
It is also the first time tours have taken place after dark, with the promise of a spine-tingling experience.
Gruesome guides will lead the way up 70ft of steps to watch the darkening skies over Penshaw on Saturday from 5pm-8pm.
The hidden spiral staircase to the top of the Monument has been closed since 1926, when a 15-year-old boy fell to his death from the 66ft-high walkway.
When it reopened in August last year, people queued round the folly to take in its 360º views.
Families are welcome on Saturday’s one-hour tour, with a minimum height requirement of one metre.
Visitors are advised to bring their own torches.
Admission is £5 per person, including National Trust members.
