A LITTLE girl from Wearside has had her long locks shorn to help out those battling serious illness.
Five-year-old Zara Parodi was at Jekyll and Hyde Haidressers, in High Barnes, to have her shoulder length hair cut off.
Wanting to go further than just a trim, the kind youngster is now donating the hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which provides hair to youngsters who have lost their own through cancer treatment.
Zara’s mum Jill, a sales administrator from High Barnes, said: “Zara saw a YouTube video of someone who had donated their hair in America and that’s where she got the idea from.
“She decided that she didn’t want her hair that long anymore and said she’d like to pass on the hair.”
Jekyll and Hyde stylist Yasmin Adams was the one who carried out the cut at the Ormonde Street salon.
As well as donating her hair, St Mary’s RC school pupil Zara has also managed to raise hundreds of pounds which will be given to the charity.
“We’ve got £400 in so far, mostly from friends and family, and maybe a bit more to come in before we send it off to the trust,” added Jill, also mum to Beth, 12.
