We have been deserted

Have your say

At the beginning of this month, Sunderland Royal Hospital lost its breast care specialist nurses to another hospital in Gateshead.

These nurses have been at Sunderland Royal Hospital supporting breast cancer patients from day one of their diagnosis, continuing through a five to 10-year cancer journey.

They were always there to support patients. They always had time to talk things over and reassure patients, no matter what concerns were raised.

When being reviewed by consultants about cancer, the specialist nurses were there and after the consultation took the patient into a different room if questions or concerns needed to be answered and also provide reassurance if needed.

Now that these specialist nurses are no longer there, who will offer support should I need it and also answer any questions I may wish to ask?

I am still going through my cancer journey and feel totally deserted after years of expert attention from these nurses, who are compassionate and marvellous people.

You are greatly missed. So sorry you have left us.
