Sums don’t add up

Have your say

If the figures quoted by the council, and printed in this paper to the effect that it is costing £800,000 per year to empty garden waste bins, a service, ‘enjoyed’ by 80,000 properties, are correct, simple arithmetic tells me that the cost per property is £10 per annum.

Why then is the council planning to charge £25? A small matter of profit perhaps?

How is it that two thirds of councils, including our neighbours North and South Tyneside manage this service without additional charge, but Sunderland can not?

As Councillor Wood states this is simply a ploy to increase the Council Tax, and will encourage fly-tipping, waste into green bins, and do nothing for the environment.
