What planet does Charles Napier live on saying there is no such thing as a poor pensioner?
I am disgusted by his comments. Let’s get a few things straight: 1. These so-called rich pensioners have worked all their lives to earn the right to receive a pension. 2. I don’t begrudge the older generation from having a few perks to enjoy their retirement, like a free television licence or bus passes, they have earned those privileges. 3. I have customers (I’m a self employed gardener) that are struggling with heating their one-bedroom bungalows.
How would Mr Napier like to sit in a cold house with blankets on to keep warm?
Please remember Mr Napier, one day you may need the £200 to keep you warm.
Some of these pensioners have lived their lives working in the coal mines and they lived through the Second World War and the hardship of rations books and then the three-day week in the 1970s.
In my opinion they deserve everything they get as they reach the autumn of their lives.
When most of these pensioners started work in the 1940s and 50s there was no such thing as a company pension. Things weren’t given to these people they had to work for a living.
And, please, don’t get me started on your support for the young, these young people have never had it so good.
