When I read the Echo (December 15), I was angry to learn that Councillor Pat Smith will “Resign if asked to do so by her leader”.
This is not going to happen because leader Councillor Paul Watson was adamant on the television that he would not resign so how could he justify getting rid of someone else?
They all stick together when something is wrong. Remember Neville Padgett and the expenses wrangle and the councillor for St Anne’s Ward charged with housing benefit fraud?
Nobody was in a hurry to sack them.
Councillors Watson and Smith should go immediately. They have had a fair crack of the whip and it is time to let new blood take over the reins.
In fairness to all the children and their families, and to save Sunderland from any further embarrassment, let us have a new leader and councillor for Children’s Services.
