Bring back this facility

It really amazes me and makes my blood boil when I hear MPs talking about grammar schools as if they are some kind of stepping stone for posh people and not for hard working people with bright children.

Let me tell Miss Hodgson a story.

I went to Plains Farm Juniors 1956-1960 and was expected to pass my 11 plus, which I, unfortunately, failed but lots of my classmates passed and went on to Bede Grammar where they went right through to university.

One of my friends ended up back at Bede College teaching my son economics and the story goes on.

My next door pal, Barry, passed his 11 plus and became a marine draughtsman.

There are many more stories of young people from poor, in financial terms only, who had great parents who knew that the grammar school was a way out of the working class background that MPs, especially these days, want to close that door in their faces.

So, please, Miss Hodgson don’t berate the one person who is trying her hardest to bring this great teaching facility back for all those children who would absolutely fly with a grammar school education.

Give the PM a chance, that’s all I am asking.
