YOUNG people pulled on their gloves to help clean up their estate.
The youngsters, aged five to 13, went litter picking around the Blackhall Rocks area to make sure it was clean and tidy before their summer fair on Saturday.
Rolling up his sleeves and leading by example was Coun Rob Crute, who said: “This morning’s litter pick activity proved to be an excellent opportunity for the young people on the estates of Blackhall Rocks to work together with older residents to make their streets cleaner and safer.
“It would be good to see this established as a routine exercise to be carried out in the future.”
Organised by East Durham Homes and partners including the police, the event also raised £150 in sponsorship which will go towards the popular youth drop-in nights at Kasko House, which provides activities and a safe place to go for young people living in the area.
