ADORNED with crowns and Union flags, families wished William and Kate the best of British at a pre-wedding bash.

Fulwell Women’s Institute (WI) held a community celebration to warm up for the big event, and to mark St George’s Day – with a second celebration planned for today.

The Community Centre in Chapman Street was decked out with bunting, flags and memorabilia for the event.

Children brought in home-made crowns and the WI also organised a George and the Dragon-themed colouring competition.

There were also raffles, tombolas, crafts and other activities with all proceeds going towards the garden at Fulwell Library.

Fulwell WI president Melanie Gibson said: “We are all looking forward to the wedding.

“Calvert’s, of Sea Road, is kindly loaning us a large-screen TV so we can watch it together over a cuppa.”
