Woman remains in critical condition after Sunderland road accident

Police have confirmed that a woman seriously injured in a Sunderland road accident earlier this week remains in a stable but critical condition.

The 33-year-old woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries following the incident at 4.35pm on Wednesday, in which a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a Nissan Qashqai in Tempest Street, Silksworth, beside Coral Bookmakers.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the woman was taken to the major trauma unit at the RVI in Newcastle by North East Ambulance crews.

The road was closed while the scene was examined, with local diversions in place.

Northumbria Police are appealing for any witnesses to call 101, quoting reference number 727 of 08/03/17.
