A WOMAN was raped by a stranger in a back alley as she made her way home from a city centre night out, a court heard.
The 19-year-old had been kissing and cuddling Lee Duggan – who she had just met – after leaving the Glass Spider in Sunderland in the early hours of August 8 last year.
But she told police Duggan, 26, then pulled her into a back lane and forced her to have sex.
Duggan admitted to police he had a sexual encounter with the woman, but claimed she consented to what went on.
He denies rape and is being tried by a jury at Newcastle Crown Court.
Prosecutor Alexia Zimbler told jurors the alleged victim had been on a night out with pals and got talking to Duggan after leaving the bar.
Miss Zimbler said: “She fully accepts after a short while she and Mr Duggan had got a bit close, they had their arms around each other and started kissing and cuddling.
“Her friend walked on ahead. She then effectively gets pulled into an alley way.
“This is where she says things changed from being friendly to rape.
“She will tell you she was crying and she wanted him to let her go and he took no notice.”
A videotaped statement the woman made to police after the incident was played to jurors yesterday.
In the statement she told detectives Duggan had been walking behind her and a pal as they started walking away from the bar, which led to them chatting.
The woman said: “We were kissing. At the bottom of Blanford Street he was trying to drag me in a back lane and I was saying no.
“He was still following us. My friend was away in front.
“We came to the backlane where it happened next to the phone shop, that’s where it happened.”
Duggan, formerly of Radcliffe Road, denies rape. The trial continues.
