An investigation has been launched after a woman was raped in the city today.
Police received a report at 6am this morning that a woman had been raped in the early hours.
The woman had got into a vehicle she believed was a taxi in Derwent Street and was driven to a location near to Hendon Valley Road and Mowbray Road, where the offence took place in the vehicle.
Officers are carrying out enquiries into the incident and are appealing for any witnesses.
It's thought the vehicle is a silver/grey small hatchback-type vehicle and that there were two men inside, although this has not been confirmed.
Extra officers are in the area.
Superintendent Mick Paterson said: "Understandably this is an incredibly distressing incident for the victim and supporting her is our priority.
“We have specially trained officers working with her to ensure she has the support she needs.
"It's important we trace the men responsible and I would ask anyone who has any information to please come forward.
“If anyone was in the area of Derwent Street or Hendon Valley Road and Mowbray Road earlier this morning, we would like to hear from them.
"As part of our enquiries officers are in the area speaking to local residents and businesses, as well as viewing CCTV to help us trace those responsible.
"Extra officers will also be on patrol in the area to offer reassurance to the local community."
