A woman has died after the car she was driving left the road and struck a wall.
It happened on the A167 at Chester Moor, near Chester-le-Street, at about 12pm yesterday.
The vehicle, a maroon-coloured Ford Focus, was travelling northbound when it left the road on a right-hand bend and hit the boundary wall of a detached property.
The driver, a 70-year-old woman from East Rainton, suffered internal injuries as a result of the collision and was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham, but sadly later died.
Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the collision investigation unit on 101.
