A WOMAN was airlifted to hospital after a four-vehicle crash.

The 51-year-old, believed to be from Chester-le-Street, was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, with chest injuries after the accident in the Lake District.

The incident happened at on the A66 at Threlkeld near Keswick.

She was airlifted by the Great North Air Ambulance Service at about 4.30pm on Monday, with non-life threatening injuries.

The casualty’s 61-year-old husband also had chest injuries, while a young girl suffered whiplash.

The injured woman has since been discharged, although her husband remains in hospital with a fractured sternum.
