HERE’S a fantastic chance to win a very special memento of the giant-killing feats of Sunderland’s 1973 FA Cup legends, who thrilled not just a town but an entire nation.
Courtesy of Sunderland-based design agency Twocan and football memento company League Of Legends, we have 10 copies of a commemorative 1973 book to give away.
We also have a copy of a very special limited-edition print, signed by all the players from the 1973 squad (with the sad exception of much-missed goalscoring hero Ian Porterfield). Only 73 have been produced, retailing at £150.
The book, retailing at £20, has been written by Sunderland-based author Brian Leng and produced as a limited edition of 1,973.
It chronicles – often through pictures never before published – the adventures of the 1973 team as it triumphed against all the odds to come out on top against the then-mighty Leeds United.
And it is written from the heart, as Brian is himself a lifelong Sunderland fan and was following the team at the time and shared in their joy at the time. Alongside Brian on those famous terraces was Paul Briggs, who now owns Twocan, and designed and produced the book and the print.
The two of them teamed up with ex-Sunderland skipper Gary Bennett to form the League Of Legends business and it is through LoL that the 1973 squad was brought on board to produce this unique memento.
We have 10 copies of the book and one copy of the print to be won.
To be in with a chance of winning, answer these two questions:
1) From which two Leeds players did Sunderland goalie Jimmy Montgomery make his remarkable and now-legendary double save?
2) In which minute of the game did Ian Porterfield score Sunderland’s winning goal?
Correct entries will be put into a prize draw, with winners drawn from a hat. Usual NEP competition T&Cs apply.
