VOTES are needed by a community project in the hope of getting the grant it desperately needs.
Campaigners applied for the money to finish off the major renovation work that had already begun on the hall to provide a space for local groups to meet.
The cash is needed for improvements including a new kitchen, electrical rewiring, a new lighting system and insulation upgrade.
Carol Shield, 67, who is involved in the campaign, said: “The community centre which used to be in Whitburn was demolished and so the village was left with a big gap that needed filling.
“The hall has already been used for events, so we decided to start renovating it and make sure it was fit for purpose.
“So far we have completely upgraded the heating system, installed a ramp and an adapted toilet for wheelchair access, which includes baby-changing facilities.
“We urgently need people to vote by Sunday to secure the grant which will help us finish off the project.”
The building is already used as a meeting place for groups from the whole community, but the organisers believe that there is capacity for much more.”
A number of groups already use the hall, which include mums and tots, Brownies, baby clinic, fitness, dancing, zumba, bridge clubs and an after school club.
Carol said: “At our hall, we have a venue which can allow local groups to meet and flourish.
“The recent closure of the old centre and the continuing constraints of local authority funding has meant a shortage of up-to-date, safe and practical venues within the village.
“Because of this, local groups are finding it difficult to sustain themselves without affordable meeting spaces.”
