South Bents Townswomen’s Guild meets tomorrow in Whitburn Methodist Church hall. The committee will meet at 6.30 in the hall, prior to craft class at 7pm. Next week, Wednesday, November 15, Sharon Vincent will talk about Hollywood Musicals at the social studies meeting. There will be a Christmas sales table to which ladies can donate and thereafter purchase. SBTG recently commemorated its 49th birthday with a luncheon at the Sea Hotel, South Shields.

Saint Vincent’s Catholic Church is holding a Christmas fair on Saturday from 11am to 1pm. There will be a variety of stalls, including cakes and savouries, crafts, books, CDs and DVDs, raffle, tombola and cafe.

Whitburn Methodist Church held a Songs of Praise service with afternoon tea. The event was well attended and everyone enjoyed a sumptuous feast afterwards with food kindly brought by many to share by all. Coffee mornings take place every Saturday in the church hall and lunch club is on Thursdays from noon to 1.30pm. Soup, sandwiches, salad, sweet, tea or coffee and stimulating conversation are available for £3. For more information or to offer voluntary help, contact Michael Vallance on 903 1408.

Singing with Music in the Minster, part of the Cultural Spring programme, continues in the Barnes Institute Tuesdays from 7pm to 8.30pm, working towards an informal presentation next month. All ages and abilities are welcome and there is no need to be able to read music. A voluntary contribution of £2 per session will be welcomed.

The Story Den continues today and each Tuesday in the Barnes Institute at 10am. These are fun-filled sessions for mums and toddlers with books coming to life through songs, dance, games, art and much more. Little Page Turners for 2 to 4 year olds is from 10am to 11am, with Baby Bookworms for 12 to 24 months from noon to 1pm. Whitburn Winter Festival Fun Day will be on Saturday, December 5. In the Barnes Institute, there will be youngsters from local primary schools singing carols, various craft and Christmas-themed stalls, lucky dip, tombolas, bouncy castle, face painters, Santa Claus with gifts for children and the Christmas draw. Admission is £1 per person including a glass of mulled wine or hot drink for adults and all children’s activities free. Whitburn shops will be participating in festive mood and the best dressed window display will be awarded a bottle of champagne.
