If you like to sing in the festive season with a selection of carols, there are plenty of place to watch, take part and enjoy this Christmas.

SUNDERLAND

What: Ha’way in a manger at Keel Square. Organised by Sunderland Connect Network in partnership with The Churches of Sunderland, enjoy a session of carol singing, led by the Salvation Army Band and Vessels of Praise Gospel Choir. Along with the carols, there will be dance displays, candle lit lanterns and live music from local schools.

When: Saturday, December 12 from 12.30pm until 2.30pm.

What: Community Carol Service. Come and sing your favourite Christmas carols, followed by a bring and share tea.

Where: East Boldon Methodist Church

When: Sunday, December 20 from 3pm until 4pm.

What: Christmas Eve Carol Service and Nativity Play. Join in with some festive carols and enjoy a fantastic nativity before. Mulled wine and other refreshments will be available in the hall afterwards.

When: Thursday, December 24 from 6pm.

What: Christmas Carol Concert and Lunch. The event is organised by Sunderland and County Durham Royal Society for the Blind, with a price of £25. Call 0191 567 3939 for more information, and to book your place.

SOUTH TYNESIDE

What: Northumbria Police annual carol service.

Where: St Michael's Church, Westoe Road, South Shields

What: Westoe Crown School Carol Services

When: Wednesday, December 9, Thursday, December 10, and Friday, December 11 from 1.30pm until 2.30pm.

What: Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. The choirs of St Michael’s and All Saints join together in this traditional service to tell the Christmas Story followed by seasonal refreshments.

What: Carols for All. Visit the Cathedral's Christmas Festival and take the opportunity to sing some carols.

NEWCASTLE

What: Durham Cathedral Choir out and about. Each year, Durham Cathedral Choir joins with the Choir of Newcastle Cathedral to celebrate its patronal festival. The two choirs join together for a special service in celebration of St Nicholas.

When: Saturday, December 5 at 12pm.

What: Candlelit Carols at the Castle. Celebrate the joy of Christmas with the St Nicholas Cathedral choir. Tickets are priced between £6 and £8, plus booking fee.
