A MUSICIAN has picked up a national gong for helping weddings go with a swing.
Geoff Walker, from Hetton, attended a glittering ceremony at Cafe De Paris in London to collect a coveted National Wedding Industry Award.
He, and funk soul band Ambassador, beat stiff competition from across the country to win the award for the most highly-commended band in the UK.
Geoff said: “We were nominated for the National Wedding Industry Award at the start of 2014 and people have voted for us over the year.
“There was also a judging panel of three industry professionals.
“We were over the moon.
“We work so hard to provide a top-class show and a bespoke service to every client, winning this award makes it all worthwhile.
“It’s such an honour.”
Geoff, who moved to London to pursue his music career, performs an eclectic mix of funk, soul, Motown and pop dance floor classics, alongside six to 12 band members as Ambassador.
The band members have racked up years of experience in the music industry, performing with artists such as Adele, Plan B, Eliza Doolittle, Sam Sparro, Terence Trent D’Arby and Jools Holland Big band.
Their elite list of clients as Ambassador include the Moroccan royal family, Manchester City Football Club and the ambassador of Azerbaijan.
More than 25 trophies were up for grabs at the awards, which celebrate the cream of the wedding industry, from designers and retailers, to stylists, florists, planners and entertainers.
Awards founder, Damian Bailey, took to the stage along with Isabel Webster from Sky News to announce the winners.
