TWO new babies have brought double joy to several generations of a Wearside family.

When sisters Kayleigh, 23, and 20-year-old Lyndsay Joyce gave birth to their daughters within weeks of each other, it created five generations of their family.

The Joyce family welcomed Kayleigh’s baby, Olivia, into the world and she was followed three weeks later by Lyndsay’s tot, Amber.

Both babies are granddaughters for the sisters’ dad, accountant Stephen Joyce, 45, and his care-worker wife Lorraine, great-granddaughters for Jean Joyce, 66, and great-great-granddaughter’s for Jean’s mum, Elizabeth Pratt, 85.

The family, who all live in Fence Houses, are delighted with their new additions.

Jean, of John Street, who is married to Kenneth and has another son, said she was delighted when the babies arrived.

She said: “It is fantastic to have five generations in the family. I can’t believe it.

“It’s not something that happens very often and not two babies so close together.

“My mam is over the moon to be a great-great-grandmother and she loves seeing the babies when we take them round to her house.”

The new great-grandmother said: “When I found out Kayleigh was having a baby I was so excited and was thrilled to bits when she found out it was a girl and then it was fantastic again when we found out Lyndsay was having a baby girl as well.

“With me having two boys, it is lovely to have granddaughters and now great-granddaughters and we are all very, very close.”

Jean, who is loving her new great-grandmother role, said with two new babies in the family, everyone is loving chipping in to give as much help as they can to Kayleigh and her partner David and Lyndsay and her partner Sean.
