A framed Sunderland Echo news story has taken pride of place in the entrance hallway of the Chaise Guest House.

It’s a sign of owner Angela Snaith’s delight at being involved last year in the Echo’s What’s On Where Awards.

It is lovely when you are recognised. To think that people have taken time to nominate you means a lot. It is a wonderful gesture

The Chaise won the Guest House of the Year category – and now Angela is urging entries for this year’s competition after reflecting on her own wonderful memories of being declared a winner.

Angela said: “The whole night was really well organised and we were blown away by the room on the night of the awards. It was really good and it was lovely to hear how well local businesses were doing.”

Angela was so impressed by the competition, she framed her story after it appeared in the Sunderland Echo. “It was a lovely write-up,” she said. “When customers see it, they ask about the night that we won an award.”

Last year, the Chaise at Roker Terrace in Sunderland was praised in nominations as “the best guest house I have ever stopped at,” “ten out of ten” and “nowhere else even comes close.”

The manager is John Snaith and his wife Angela said John really deserved praise for going “above and beyond” to make the business a success.

Now, she has urged people to enter this year’s awards. “It is lovely when you are recognised. To think that people have taken time to nominate you means a lot. It is a wonderful gesture.”

The Best Western Roker Hotel will host the finale of our competition – held in association with our weekly entertainments guide, Wow 24/7 – which recognises the elite in everything from restaurants to children’s venues, takeaways to parks and community areas, and hotels to the best shopping experience.

Nominations can be sent in until the deadline of February 1.

After that, we will draw up a shortlist before revealing the winners at the finale on Thursday, February 25.

Sponsors already on board are Hebburn-based UK Asbestos Specialists (UKasl).
