Sunderland City Council’s walking programme is an accredited national walking for health scheme. There are four groups operating in Washington. On a Tuesday from 9.30am to 10.30am, a Mums On The Move group meets at Miss Tina’s coffee shop, Barmston. The walk leader will take you and your baby in their pushchair on a structured walk which includes strengthening and toning exercises suitable for new mums. At the same time on a Tuesday a health walk meets at Washington Village Hall car park. On a Friday, two groups meet at 10am, one is an-hour long and the second a two-hour advanced walking group. Washington Station WI meets on the third Tuesday of every month at 6.45pm in the Life House, Grasmere Terrace, Columbia. New members are welcome.
Sunderland Art Club has an exhibition from October 29 to December 3 in the Granary Gallery. Most of the works will be for sale.
The arts centre Washington offers a range of activities for seniors on a weekly basis: Monday, 1pm to 3pm, there is bingo. Tuesday, 1.30pm to 3.30pm, sequence and ballroom dancing; Thursday, 1.30pm 3.30pm, tea dance; Friday, 1.30pm to 3.30pm, Creative Age – using different art forms . These sessions are designed for people living with early stage dementia, long term health conditions or social isolation.Every other Wednesday from 1.30pm to 3,30pm The Nifties meet for a variety of talks and demonstrations .
Tall Tales and Hot Chocolate are being served up at Washington Wetlands from October 24 to 28. Enjoy a free hot chocolate with a story in the discovery centre followed by spooky crafts. Suitable for children of all ages. Stories start at 1pm and run for 30 minutes.
