AN ALERT has been put out after suspected bogus callers targeted residents in a town.
A Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator in Peterlee called police after men knocked on doors in the Marwood Grove area touting for work cutting down trees.
A white flat-bed lorry was used by the men, who both spoke with Irish accents.
One was described as in his 40s and the other in his 20s.
It is not thought anyone agreed to work and police have advised residents to not accept offers of maintenance work by cold callers.
The report was made just before 11am on Tuesday.
Anyone with any information can call 101 or contact Police Community Support Officer Sarah Willis on the same number if they are interested in sign up to Neighbourhood Watch, with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they wish to pass on details about bogus callers anonymously.
