PART of a building has collapsed next to Sunderland’s Queen Alexandra Bridge.

It happened at the Rocktop Auto Scrapyard building, in Pallion New Road, this afternoon.

Bricks from the building fell onto the road, causing traffic delays for a period of time.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “We were called to Rocktop Auto Scrapyard at 3.50pm on Tuesday after a wall collapsed.

“Bricks were left on the roundabout next to Queen Alexandra Bridge.

“Officers attended and there was some congestion before debris was cleared.

“At 4.30pm, traffic was flowing freely.”
