ENERGETIC youngsters can enter a mini fun run and walk, run or toddle their way along a one-mile route through Sunderland’s Mowbray Park next month.

The Sunderland BIG Mini Fun Run, part of Sunderland City Council’s series of BIG events, takes place on Saturday, May 3.

The family event is being held to encourage children and their families to get moving, and is open to youngsters aged three to seven, if accompanied by an adult, and eight to 10-year-olds, who can run by themselves.

“The Big Mini Fun Run is one of many fantastic running events for people of all ages and abilities happening in Sunderland across that weekend,” Sunderland City Council leader Paul Watson said.

“The Big Mini Fun Run is for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.”

The BIG Mini Fun Run costs £3 per person and participants can enter on the day, by registering from 10.15am, with only cash payments accepted.

The run itself begins at 11am, and all participants will receive an Active Sunderland medal to show off to their friends, when they finish.

The next date in this year’s BIG Event calendar is the Sunderland BIG Bike Ride on the weekend of Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18.

The five-mile family bike ride takes place in Herrington Country Park on the Saturday.

On the Sunday, starting from the university campus at St. Peter’s Riverside, riders can take in some of the best scenery in Sunderland with a choice of three different routes covering distances of 14, 20 and 35 miles.
