RAIN and wind did nothing to dampen the spirits of foster carers and families who stepped out for a good cause.
More than 50 walkers put their best foot forward at Herrington Country Park as part of a Niall’s Mile walk in aid of the Foundation of Light, formerly SAFC Foundation.
It was part of the charity’s Focus on Family campaign which aims to encourage families to take part in healthy activities and learning opportunities.
Lesley Spuhler, chief executive of the Foundation of Light, said: “Our campaign is intended to draw attention to the range of issues that can improve quality of life for families.
“But the definition of family varies and at the foundation we work with the full range of family units including single parents, grandparents and other carers.
“Events like this emphasise the value of foster carers and their families in the community and it is fantastic to see so many people turn out to take part in Niall’s Mile.”
The charity has teamed up with the city council to publicise fostering to the families and adults with whom the Foundation of Light works.
There will be a series of information evenings at their classrooms in the Stadium of Light throughout the year.
To hear first hand from staff and foster carers about the rewards and challenges that fostering can bring, there are also regular information evenings.
The next event is being held on May 23 at 6.30pm at Leechmere Training Centre in Leechmere Industrial Estate, Grangetown.
