VOLUNTEERS who help ensure the survival of a charity shop have been rewarded for their efforts.

Denise Young and Alex Laydon have been awarded for completing five years of service at the Sue Ryder shop, in Sea Road, Fulwell.

Manager Jackie Laydon, said: “Our volunteers are absolutely vital, we couldn’t open our doors without them. Not only are we rewarding them for their long service, but their reliable service too.

“We have 10 volunteers at the moment, aged 16 to 60s. Some do a couple of hours, some do three or four days a week.

“We are always looking for new volunteers, who can give as little or as much time as they like.” Denise and Alex were given their awards as part of Volunteers’ Week, which took place this month.

Sue Ryder promotes more than 600 volunteering roles on its website and develops bespoke roles for people.
