Volunteers plant bulbs in Sunderland park

Have your say

VOLUNTEERS are wanted to make a blooming difference at a Sunderland park this weekend.

Weather permitting, bluebells and daffodils are to be planted in Backhouse Park on Sunday.

The Friends of Backhouse and Barley Mow Parks are providing the bulbs, which have been recovered from an old garden which is no longer in use.

Members of a relatively new organisation – Exchange and Change – have volunteered to plant them.

Exchange and Change is dedicated to sharing skills and building up a better community spirit. The organisation will be holding an official launch event on Sunday, June 16, at Ashbrooke Sports Club between 1pm and 4pm, and it is urging people to go along and get involved.

The voluntary organisation works as a skill exchange system where members swap goods and services, using time credits instead of money.

Adults and children are invited to next month’s launch to find out more. Anyone interested can also log on to www.exchangeandchange.org.uk for further information.

The planting event on Sunday starts at 11am. Organisers say everyone is welcome.
