VOLUNTEERS turned out in force to spruce up Sunderland Marina in time for summer.
Members of Sunderland Volunteer Centre arrived at the North Dock to help out, along with Southwick Neighbourhood Youth Project, Sunderland Marina and City Council staff, and the Youth Offending Service.
They cleared plantation around the marina, painted the railings and picked up litter, as part of the council’s Love Where You Live campaign, which encourages people to get involved in their communities.
“It was great to see so many people turn out on the day,” St Peter’s ward councillor Julia Jackson said.
“We’re very lucky to have an asset like the marina on our doorstep but we need to look after it to keep it at its best. Events like this are a great way to get involved in what’s going on in your community.”
Portfolio holder for City Services, Coun James Blackburn added: “Love Where You Live is all about local people helping to look after their community and taking a pride in it. This is a fantastic example of people working together to make a real difference to the area where they live.”
