A GROUP of women want people to make a date with them for their latest charity fund-raiser.
About 20 women from Whitburn are baring all to raise money for armed forces charity Help For Heroes, which provides support for injured servicemen and women.
They are putting together a racy calendar, inspired by the film and play Calendar Girls, which tells the tale of a group of Yorkshire Women’s Institute members who strip off to raise cash for their group. The Whitburn group is launching its own version of the calendar at an event at the village’s Grey Horse pub.
One of the organisers, Joanne Atherton admits they are all a little nervous about the results.
The 38-year-old, who works at South Shields firm Hi Spec Fabrications, said: “In the village, we like to support Help For Heroes when we can. The men hold a golf day every year to raise money for the charity.
“This year, a few of us thought it was about time us women joined in and did something of our own.
“We were talking about what we could do when someone suggested a calendar. Before long, about 20 of us had signed up for it. It was great because everyone has got into the spirit of it and, although we’re all quite nervous about the pictures, it has been good fun and it’s all for a great cause.”
The women have taken photographs of each other, and are finalising which pictures will be used before the calendar is launched on August 4.
Mrs Atherton said: “We’re all very excited about the launch. It should be a great night. As well as being the launch of the calendar, there will also be a catwalk lingerie show in the pub.
“Hopefully, we’ll get lots of people along and raise as much money as possible.”
Tickets, £5, will be on sale from the pub and village shops soon.
