GIANT vegetables and flowers in every colour hailed the return of an historical show at the weekend.

Organisers of Herrington Village Show praised entrants for their efforts in producing impressive displays in six categories, from sugar craft, to cookery, in what they called “the best show yet”. Chairman of the show committee, Les Scott, said: “We had a brilliant number of entries in every category.

“The sugar craft was a new class this year, and was probably the most successful.

“The Herrington Village Show is the biggest community event for Herrington and brings all of the societies – the Women’s Institute, Women’s Guild, political parties, choirs and others – together, and some of us are determined to keep it going.”

About 250 people enjoyed the displays at the show, which was held at the Second Herrington Scout Hut.

Prizes for each category were presented to winners by BBC1 Look North presenter Jeff Brown.

Money raised from the event will support the Scout hut and cover the cost of maintenance and repair of the building in Crow Lane.
