TWO teenagers were rescued after they were left stranded near a Castletown cave.
Lifeboat crews picked the 16 and 17-year-old up on a small ledge at the bottom of a steep embankment leading to the Wear.
The pair, along with another youth, had found themselves in trouble at 5.40pm yesterday.
Two of them were unable to climb back up to safety, finding themselves trapped by the rising tide.
Sunderland RNLI launched their inshore lifeboat who picked up the two lads, wearing tracksuits and hoodies, beside a small cave near Castletown.
The third youth managed to climb to safety.
A spokesman for Humber Coastguard said: “It can be very difficult to climb back up when you are facing a rising tide.”
