THE southbound Tyne Tunnel has reopened following a collision between a car and a motorbike.
Police were called to the southbound tunnel 8.20am on Tuesday and it was closed for a short time, causing rush-hour tailbacks.
Officers say a motorbike collided with the back of a car. The tunnel has now reopened after the road was cleared.
The rider of the motorbike – a 36-year-old man – received medical treatment at the scene and was taken to hospital as a precaution. He is not believed to be seriously injured.
