Two women hurt in Sunderland road accidents

A WOMAN is critically ill after a road accident in Sunderland today.

Police and fire services were called to Ethel Terrace in Castletown shortly before 2pm after reports a car had left the road and collided with a bollard.

Firefighters from Sunderland Central fire station removed the driver, a woman in her 60s, from the vehicle sand she was taken to Sunderland royal Hospital.

In a separate incident, a woman suffered minor injuries after crashing through the barrier as she left a city car park.

Firefighters used a board to remove the woman from her Audi TT car after the accident at the exit of the Bridges car park in Green Terrace at around 12.25pm.
