TWO men were arrested after more than an hour of antics on a Sunderland bridge.
Police, ambulance and fire crews were all called to Monkwearmouth Bridge in the early hours of Thursday morning where the pair, who are believed to have been drinking, were climbing on the bridge.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “At just before 12.15am police received a report from the ambulance service of two people on Monkwearmouth Bridge, Sunderland.
“Officers attended the scene along with the fire and ambulance service.
“By around 1.45am, both men came down from the bridge.”
She said the pair, aged 27 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and are being interviewed by police. Alan Patterson, watch manager at Sunderland Central Fire Station, said a specialised machine with a longer ladder had to be called in because one of the men had climbed so high and the brigade’s river rescue boat was also called.
He said incidents like this are a huge waste of emergency resources.
