TV host Matt Baker swapped presenting for pedalling as he began a rickshaw challenge to travel 500 miles for Children In Need.

The One Show star, who is from Easington, set off from Edinburgh Castle and aims to complete his 484-mile journey to London in eight days.

Matt – who won last year’s Strictly Come Dancing and is a supporter of Sunderland’s Grace House Appeal – is aiming to collect passengers during his gruelling trip and aims to finish during the live Children In Need broadcast on Friday.

Matt said: “It’s going to be tough but it will be the cause and the public support that will keep me going.”

He picked up his first passenger – a giant Pudsey Bear – as he set off in the darkness from Edinburgh.

Viewers can follow Matt’s route at bbc.co.uk/pudsey with GPS tracking able to pinpoint his exact location.

Well-wishers can give £5 donations by texting “MATT” to 70705.
