ARCHITECT George Clarke is kicking off a series of lectures at Sunderland University today.

The Sunderland-born TV star will launch the free 2013-14 Discover series at the Murray Library Lecture Theatre in Chester Road with a sold-out talk on his career and the latest series of Amazing Spaces, currently showing on Channel 4.

Discover follows last year’s successful Public Lecture series and aims to widen the focus of the series.

As well as continuing to present talks by celebrated national figures, the university will also present panel discussions, live interviews, and film and TV screenings with a chance to quiz renowned artists, politicians, business people and scientists.

George received an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Sunderland in 2011 in recognition of his contribution to making architectural practice accessible to the wider public.

Tomorrow, he will be at Waterstones in The Bridges to sign copies of his new book, Amazing Spaces, from his TV series.

George will be doing the signing from noon.
