FUND-RAISERS have paid tribute to supporters who helped raise hundreds of pounds for lifeboat volunteers.
More than £1,000 has been raised in memory of a teenager who drowned in an seafront accident in Hendon.
Mark Langton, who went to Southmoor School in Sunderland, was swept to his death by a 15ft wave as he played with pals on a slipway in 2006.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, he later died at hospital.
To mark the anniversary of his death, Mark’s friends and family donated £1,045 to Sunderland RNLI.
Margaret Moan, a family friend, said donations are still coming in from customers of Margaret’s Shop and The Blue House, in Hendon.
She said: “Many thanks for the beautiful cakes and flower arrangements made by Karen Rochester, which were raffled, and Harry, from Care UK, where Mark’s mum Beverley Steel works, who organised tombolas.”
Ben Mitchell volunteer crew member at Sunderland Station said: “As always, we are extremely grateful.”
