A WIFE has paid tribute to her husband who died in a crash on the A19.
Gary Andrew Barella, of South Terrace in Horden, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the south-bound carriageway.
The 45-year-old father-of-two had been driving a Ford Fiesta when the car first hit the central reservation, just past Easington Services, and then struck a lamp-post on the other side of the road.
Paramedics and a crew from the Great North Air Ambulance had battled to save Mr Barella.
In a statement, his wife Andrea said he had been a loving family man who loved his job as a care worker for adults with autism.
Durham Police said a post mortem examination is still to be carried out to establish a cause of death.
The accident happened just before 12.30pm on April 21, with the road closed until 2.45pm as investigations were carried out by police.
