TWO passengers were injured after the car they were in left the road and hit a lamppost.
The smash happened just before 2.30am on Saturday when the Peugeot 206 was travelling west from Maureen Terrace in Seaham into Dene Road, Dalton-le-Dale.
It failed to negotiate a left-hand bend, hitting metal railings and a concrete lamppost.
The front seat passenger, an 18-year-old man from Seaham, suffered a suspected broken left arm and the rear passenger, a 16-year-old girl from the town, sustained a cut to her forehead and a suspected fractured cheek bone.
Both were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment.
The driver, a 17-year-old youth, also from Seaham, was uninjured.
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or spotted the car shortly before the incident occurred, is asked to contact Pc Phillip Hardman, of the road policing unit on 101.
