MOTORISTS have been warned they face delays on one of Sunderland’s busiest routes over the next two weeks.
Resurfacing works mean the roundabout at the A690 Durham Road junction with City Way at Doxford International will be closed for three days, while the A690 and City Way will be subject to a series of overnight closures.
The works start next Friday, May 8, when the A690 eastbound on the Houghton side of the junction will be closed overnight.
The slow lane will be shut between 6pm and 6am and the entire carriageway, along with the westbound fast lane, will be shut between 8pm and 6am.
The outer ring lane on the roundabout will also be affected.
On Monday, May 11, the nearside lane of the A690 westbound on the Sunderland side of the junction will close from 6pm and the road will be closed entirely from 8pm to 6am.
City Way northbound will be closed from 8pm to 6am and the roundabout’s outer ring lane will also be shut.
The A690 eastbound on the Sunderland side of the junction will be fully closed on Tuesday, May 12, from 8pm to 6am, while City Way northbound will be shut to traffic from 6pm to 6am.
The outer ring lane of the roundabout will also be closed.
And the roundabout itself will be fully closed between Wednesday May 13 and Friday May 15 between 8.00pm till 6.00am, although southbound access from the A19 to Sunderland will be maintained during this roundabout closures.
Highways bosses say southbound access from the A19 to the A690 eastbound into Sunderland will be maintained.
Diversions which will be in place during the closures and details will be announced shortly.
